Chat GPT Told Me To Take Protein Shots, So I Did It

In the midst of a usual morning routine, I found myself under the scrutiny of my partner as I embarked on a peculiar new wellness venture: protein shots. My mornings often feature a blend of health rituals, from tongue scraping to sipping bone broth laced with apple cider vinegar. So, when I announced my latest experiment, it was no surprise that it raised some eyebrows. However, the motivation behind this change stemmed from a desire to boost my protein intake. After noticing a persistent energy slump in the afternoons despite eating nutritious foods like Greek yogurt and roasted fish, I consulted ChatGPT. The AI suggested a straightforward method to get a protein boost: mixing protein powder with water or milk to create a quick shot.

Mixed feelings ensued about this new tactic. Naturally, I was skeptical—my previous use of protein powder involved blending it into delicious smoothies with frozen bananas and blueberries to mask its lingering chemical aftertaste. The idea of consuming it raw in shot form felt daunting, almost gag-inducing. However, the convenience appealed to me: a simple, no-fuss way to slip in additional protein without the hassle of cleansing blender remnants or dealing with smoothie stains.

Seeking validation, I reached out to a dietitian, Brea Lofton, who confirmed that protein shots do indeed provide a quick protein fix, particularly beneficial right after workouts when one might not have the appetite for a larger shake. Yet, she warned that while protein shots are efficient for intake, they won’t satiate hunger as effectively as a full meal might. This revelation added a layer of complexity: although convenient, these shots might not offer the sustainable energy levels I was aiming for.

As I stood in my kitchen preparing the shot, I glanced at the small glass, filled with a thick, grainy concoction that was once home to rosé tequila. With a resigned sense of determination, I downed the mixture in a couple of heavy swallows. The result was exactly as anticipated—unpleasant in taste and texture, yet the speed of consumption was strikingly refreshing. I didn’t have to deal with the sticky aftermath of blending, and I could quickly wash it down with a glass of water.

Despite the initial excitement, it became clear that this wasn’t going to be a long-term solution for me. Given that I wasn’t training for a competition or aiming to track every macro, the method felt too extreme for my lifestyle. My primary goal remained to cultivate sustained energy throughout the day without resorting to drastic measures. I felt compelled to find a more manageable route, one that didn’t make me wince, and led me back to simpler options like yogurt.

In reflecting on this tiny adventure, it seems clear that while quick fixes can be appealing, especially in our fast-paced lives, it’s essential to find methods that align with our personal goals and preferences. For me, the protein shot was a bold experiment, but my journey towards better energy management will likely be smoother when focusing on familiar and enjoyable foods. So, it’s back to the yogurt aisle, where I can find comfort, flavor, and the nutrition I need.
