Tom Ford’s Architecture Foundation Is the Ideal Matte Formula

When it comes to makeup essentials, many people have their go-to items that they simply can’t leave home without. Whether it’s lip liner, brow gel, or mascara, everyone has their preferences. For me, as someone who loves makeup in all its glorious forms, the one product I find indispensable is a solid full-coverage foundation. Not only does it act as a canvas that smooths out imperfections and boosts my confidence, but it also prepares me for whatever the day throws my way. Lately, I’ve been enamored with Tom Ford’s Architecture Soft Matte Blurring Foundation. This foundation is not just about appearance; it’s designed to last through long nights out and busy work events, living up to its claim of lasting well into the evening while being lightweight yet offering ample coverage.

I have fond memories of Tom Ford being one of the first luxury brands in my makeup journey during my teenage years, so my excitement for the latest launch felt almost nostalgic. Yes, the price tag of $95 makes it a splurge, but the array of benefits the foundation offers makes it worth the money for many makeup lovers. It’s touted as being oil-controlling yet hydrating, with a soft matte finish that claims to be non-creasing and fade-resistant. With my combination skin that often turns shiny after a few hours, I’m particularly interested in whether this foundation can manage both my hyperpigmentation and persistent afternoon shine.

Upon first application, I found the shade selection to be surprisingly accessible. I opted for Fawn, which has the perfect olive undertone for my skin type, and it blended seamlessly. The lightweight and airy feel of the formula amazed me as it melted into my skin without any heaviness. I also had a chance to see how the shade selection worked for others; fellow Allure editors noted that finding their perfect match was both quick and effortless thanks to the excellent references provided by Tom Ford.

The innovative formula of this foundation deserves its praise as well. Enriched with skin-care ingredients like hyaluronic acid and glycerin, it effectively draws moisture into the skin. Elements like caffeine and milk thistle extract contribute to reducing puffiness and defending against free radicals. Additionally, it features powerful microsphere powders that diffuse light while controlling oil. The soft matte finish isn’t the flat kind often associated with full-coverage foundations; instead, it creates a beautiful blurring effect carried through with just the right amount of radiance that prevents your complexion from looking dull.

Does it really hold up through a long day? According to makeup artists who have used it on clients during high-stakes events, the answer is a resounding yes. This foundation stands up to sweat and humidity, proving its worth for outdoor weddings or hotter environments. Even after hours of wear, the foundation maintained its smooth, blurred finish without requiring any touch-ups. I’ve experienced similar results, with the foundation staying true to its claims of not breaking down in my T-zone and keeping my skin looking flawless throughout the day.

My application technique has evolved as I’ve gotten more comfortable with the formula. I’ve learned that while it has a more matte appearance initially, taking extra time to blend ensures that it doesn’t cake up. A dense foundation brush works wonders in applying the product, and occasionally using a damp sponge helps to achieve a more sheer and natural finish. The insightful tips from professionals recommend applying it in light layers to build coverage and setting only specific shine-prone areas with a fine-setting powder. With just a single layer, I found that my hyperpigmentation and under-eye discoloration were beautifully neutralized, giving me an even, smooth canvas that works harmoniously with both liquid and powder products.
