A Vibrant New Chapter for Space NK in Oxford Circus

Excitement filled the air as eager customers gathered outside the new Space NK flagship store on Oxford Circus, ready to be among the first to explore its doors for the grand opening. The anticipation buzzed distinctly on that Friday morning, as this new venture marks a significant milestone for the brand. The flagship store, which occupies a generous 4,600 square feet within a former Topshop location, is a far cry from the brand’s previous smaller store nearby. It promises not just a shopping experience, but a space designed for connection and engagement, blending socializing with retail.

Chief Commercial Officer Margaret Mitchell enthused that this new flagship signifies a "new inflection and a new era" for Space NK, highlighting the store’s revolutionary approach to the customer experience. With interactive features and visually captivating elements, the store aims to elevate the shopping experience, transforming it into an immersive adventure. “We are so excited to bring to market a new customer experience,” she remarked, noting that the brand’s curated selection is now presented more artistically than ever before.

Inside, the store greets visitors with a familiar yet refreshed atmosphere. With innovative new features like a fully staffed fragrance bar and specialized areas showcasing popular products like lip balms and body sprays, customers can now engage with their favorite items hands-on. This arrangement encourages exploration and discovery, allowing shoppers to indulge their curiosity and find joy in trying out new goods. CEO Andy Lightfoot pointed out that there has been “significant demand” for comprehensive beauty products, speaking to an evolving consumer desire for personal and niche fragrances that offer a unique identity.

Adding a touch of whimsy to the experience, Space NK has partnered with plush toy creator Jellycat for a special commemorative item: a limited-edition palm-sized bag charm inspired by their iconic black shopping bag. This charming accessory reflects the brand’s playful spirit, featuring a cheerful smile, soft handles, and little corduroy boots, with enough room inside for a lip gloss. This collaboration is not just about merchandise; it symbolizes the joyful essence of shopping at Space NK, combining beauty and playfulness.

The move to Oxford Circus represents a significant leap for Space NK in London’s bustling West End. Previously, the brand operated a small store on Regent Street that barely reached 1,000 square feet, making the transition to this expansive flagship even more meaningful. Lightfoot acknowledged the challenges faced in the former location, stating they “were working really hard” to meet customer needs. Now, with a dynamic space that encourages customer interaction, the potential for growth is enormous.

This flagship opening is part of a larger strategy for Space NK, which is set to launch 11 stores across the U.K. and Ireland this year alone. Earlier, they opened their largest store outside London at Birmingham’s Bullring, covering 4,400 square feet over two floors. With the Oxford Circus flagship joining the fold, the total will rise to 88 locations by the end of the year, with plans for four existing stores to move to larger, more engaging environments. The exciting developments at Space NK promise not only to enhance the shopping experience but also to solidify its place as a beloved destination for beauty enthusiasts.
