OSEA Malibu Appoints Erika Kussmann as CEO to Drive Global Expansion

OSEA Malibu, a renowned skin care brand known for its seaweed-infused products, has made significant executive changes following its recent capital injection from General Atlantic. The brand has appointed Erika Kussmann as its new CEO and board director, taking over the role from co-founder Melissa Palmer. Palmer will transition to the position of chief brand officer, allowing her to focus more on the brand’s identity and vision while Kussmann steers its strategic direction.

Erika Kussmann comes to OSEA with a strong background in the beauty industry. Previously, she served as CEO of Paula’s Choice and held key marketing roles at Rodan + Fields and Revlon. Her extensive experience in both executive and marketing leadership roles positions her perfectly to guide OSEA through its next phase of growth. Kussmann will closely collaborate with the brand’s original mother-daughter founders, Jenefer and Melissa Palmer, with a specific goal of enhancing the brand’s global reach and elevating product innovation.

Speaking about her new role, Kussmann emphasized OSEA’s commitment to blending skincare efficacy with wellness. She expressed enthusiasm about joining the team, stating that the brand has already captured the hearts of many customers. Kussmann is determined to extend OSEA’s international footprint and solidify its reputation as a leader in prestige skincare and body care. Her focus will not only be on expanding OSEA’s product offerings but also on reimagining what skincare can be for consumers seeking natural and effective solutions.

Melissa Palmer expressed her excitement about Kussmann’s appointment, highlighting the importance of finding a CEO who shares the brand’s mission-driven ethos. According to Palmer, Kussmann’s vision is perfectly aligned with OSEA’s founding values, particularly in the realms of sustainability and wellness. This partnership is seen as a crucial step in scaling the brand’s global presence, with both women committed to ensuring that OSEA continues to resonate with customers seeking holistic beauty solutions.

Founded in 1996, OSEA Malibu draws inspiration from nature, with its name representing the ocean, sun, earth, and atmosphere. Its high-quality products incorporate a unique blend of seaweed and botanicals, setting it apart in a competitive market. OSEA’s hero products include the Undaria Algae Body Oil, recognized as one of the best skincare products by WWD Beauty Inc, as well as the Anti-Aging Body Balm, Hyaluronic Sea Serum, and Collagen Dream Night Cream, all of which contribute to the brand’s strong reputation for effectiveness and quality.

Financially, OSEA has been thriving, with estimated annual net sales of around $100 million. This success is largely attributed to a balanced distribution strategy, with sales coming from both retail partners like Ulta Beauty and Nordstrom, as well as the company’s own website. As OSEA looks to the future, the synergy between Kussmann and the Palmer family is expected to not only sustain but elevate the brand’s status in the beauty industry, further bridging the gap between luxury skincare and wellness.
