Nordstrom recently announced the impending retirement of Debbi Hartley-Triesch, its esteemed general merchandising manager. After a remarkable 35-year journey with the retailer, Hartley-Triesch will officially step down in September. While her successor has yet to be identified, her legacy is cemented within Nordstrom’s storied past. Over her four years as the executive vice president and general merchandise manager overseeing beauty, accessories, and home, she has significantly influenced the direction of the company.

Hartley-Triesch’s career began in 1990 when she commenced as a beauty adviser at Nordstrom’s Westside Pavilion. With determination and a keen business sense, she climbed the corporate ladder, playing a pivotal role in the opening of Nordstrom’s first location in Dallas. As she transitioned through various roles—national beauty director and divisional merchandising manager—her expertise flourished. In 2018, she took on a leadership role as senior vice president and Northwest regional manager, supervising 15 stores and 35 Nordstrom Rack locations, showcasing her extensive capabilities until she became executive vice president in August 2021.

Under Hartley-Triesch’s guidance, Nordstrom embraced innovative practices that kept the retailer at the forefront of the industry. One of her noteworthy achievements was the introduction of the Beauty Trend Show, a highly anticipated event showcasing seasonal brands and products, thereby creating a buzz in the beauty sector. Her knack for identifying future trends helped drive significant growth for the company, while also nurturing upcoming Nordstrom talent to ensure a bright future for the team.

The relationships Hartley-Triesch fostered throughout her tenure have been just as impactful as her dedicated work. Jamie Nordstrom, the chief merchandising officer and a member of the Nordstrom founding family, acknowledged her profound influence: “Debbi has been an incredible leader and partner during her time with us. Her passion, loyalty, and infectious enthusiasm have left a lasting impact on our people, customers, and the greater retail landscape.” Such sentiments reflect the deep personal connections she formed within the company and the industry at large.

In her farewell statement, Hartley-Triesch expressed heartfelt gratitude for her time at Nordstrom. She noted, “I feel incredibly fortunate to have spent 35 years at Nordstrom, a company that has allowed me to grow, lead, and work alongside remarkably talented individuals.” Reflecting on her journey, she highlighted the pride she takes in aiding the brand’s growth and mentoring new leaders, emphasizing that her experience was not just about career achievements but also personal connections forged along the way.

As Hartley-Triesch prepares for her transition into retirement, she carries with her the passion and commitment that make Nordstrom a distinctive place in the retail world. Her departure marks the end of an era, yet her contributions will resonate, shaping the future of Nordstrom as it continues to evolve. While she embarks on this new chapter, her legacy will undoubtedly inspire others within the company and serve as a testament to the power of dedication and leadership in the retail industry.
