Melanie Grant Expands Her Aesthetic Empire in New York City

In an exciting development for the beauty industry, renowned celebrity facialist and aesthetician Melanie Grant has opened her second U.S. studio on the bustling corner of 78th Street and Madison Avenue in New York City. This new outpost, affectionately named The Studio Upstairs, is nestled within Violet Grey’s stylish The Madison Store, which also recently set up shop in the city. Grant’s venture began with a soft launch in May, just in time for the Met Gala, signaling her deep commitment to serving both existing and new clientele in the heart of Manhattan.

Grant has always maintained a close relationship with Cassandra Grey, the founder of Violet Grey, having drawn inspiration and support since her initial studio opening in Los Angeles. In an interview, Grant expressed her admiration for Grey’s entrepreneurial spirit and her ability to rebuild the Violet Grey brand. This partnership feels natural, as the two share a similar clientele and a mutual understanding of high standards in beauty. For Grant, who also operates studios in Melbourne, Sydney, and plans to launch in London later this year, entering the New York market signifies not only growth but a thrilling challenge to adapt to a new demographic.

Understanding the distinctive preferences of New York clientele is crucial for Grant. She notes a striking contrast between the aesthetics favored in Los Angeles and those in New York, with Los Angeles embracing a glossy sheen, while New York leans towards a more grounded yet glamorous style. Her personal connection to the city, where she celebrated her marriage, further enriches her vision for the studio. Unlike typical cramped treatment rooms, Grant designed a spacious, open-plan treatment area evocative of a chic living space, addressing a common concern among New Yorkers about claustrophobic spa environments.

To ensure the ambiance aligns with her vision, Grant enlisted the help of Paris-based interior design firm Pierre Augustine Rose, creating a luxurious yet inviting space. Originally intending to have three smaller treatment rooms, she pivoted to one expansive treatment room, emphasizing the luxury of space in one of the world’s most densely populated cities. This thoughtful approach is a reflection of her philosophy of providing an experience that prioritizes comfort alongside results. She highlights the importance of creating an environment where clients feel pampered and cared for, even during potentially uncomfortable treatments.

The collaborative spirit behind the opening of Grant’s studio resonates with Grey’s vision for Violet Grey as a hub of culture and community. Inspired by the playful glamour of the ’70s Playboy brand, Grey aims to transform retail experiences into something more dynamic and immersive. It was through her connection with Victoria Beckham that Grey first became aware of Grant’s talents. Impressed by Grant’s enthusiasm and expertise, Grey has frequently collaborated with her on various beauty projects, reinforcing their strong professional bond.

Grant’s services extend beyond quick fixes; they involve comprehensive consultations and detailed tutorials to empower clients on their skincare journeys. Sessions typically last between an hour and a half to two hours, incorporating advanced techniques like Fraxel laser treatments or skin needling. Grant’s mission is to make these experiences as comfortable and reassuring as possible, ensuring clients leave not only with glowing skin but also feeling nurtured. After 25 years in the industry, she has amassed a celebrity clientele that includes friends like Beckham and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, each trusting her vision and expertise in skincare.
