Marla Beck, a prominent figure in the beauty and health industry, is stepping down from her role as president and chief executive officer of BeautyHealth, the company known for its flagship product, Hydrafacial. Her tenure as CEO began in March 2024, and she has been instrumental in shaping the company’s direction, especially following her success in founding Bluemercury, a luxury beauty retailer. While Beck will transition to an advisory role, her departure marks the end of an era and the beginning of a new chapter for BeautyHealth, as industry veteran Pedro Malha steps in to take the reins.

Pedro Malha brings a wealth of experience to his new position, having spent over two decades in the health care and medical device sectors. His most recent role was as the worldwide division president and corporate officer at Abbott Laboratories, where he led initiatives in the neuromodulation business. Malha’s previous leadership roles at major companies like Zimmer Biomet Holdings and Johnson & Johnson have equipped him with the skills necessary to manage complex global markets effectively. With an MBA from Boston University and a bachelor’s degree from Bentley University, he embodies the blend of business acumen and industry knowledge that Beck believes is essential for BeautyHealth’s future.

Reflecting on this transition, Brent Saunders, chairman of the board, emphasized Malha’s exceptional leadership qualities. He pointed out that Malha’s extensive experience at leading multinational companies in health care and medical devices positions him well to guide BeautyHealth forward. Saunders also expressed gratitude for Beck’s leadership during a crucial period of transformation, highlighting how her efforts have left the company well-prepared for sustainable growth in the future.

Beck herself shared her thoughts on the leadership change, expressing pride in the milestones achieved during her time at BeautyHealth. She believes that with a solid team and clear strategy already in place, now is the ideal moment for a new CEO to take over. Beck underscored her excitement for BeautyHealth’s ongoing pipeline of innovations and brand initiatives, which she feels will thrive under Malha’s guidance. Her confidence in the company’s future prospects showcases her dedication and commitment to its success, even as she steps back from an executive role.

Despite the leadership transition, recent financial reports reveal challenges for BeautyHealth. In the second quarter, the company reported net sales of $78.2 million, marking a 13.7 percent decrease compared to the same period last year. This decline was primarily attributed to diminished net sales from delivery systems, which may add additional pressure on Malha as he assumes his new role. Addressing these challenges will require careful strategizing and a focus on innovation to reinvigorate sales and maintain investor confidence.

As Marla Beck departs this pivotal role, the future of BeautyHealth under Pedro Malha’s leadership remains a subject of interest for industry stakeholders. With Beck’s foundational work and Malha’s extensive experience, there is reason for optimism. The journey of BeautyHealth is far from over, and all eyes will be on the company as it embarks on this new chapter, striving for excellence and innovation in the ever-evolving beauty and health landscape.
