Laura Slatkin Steps Back From Day-to-day Operations at Nest New York

Laura Slatkin, the visionary founder and executive chairman of Nest New York, has decided to step back from the daily operations of her acclaimed fragrance brand. This news, shared in a company-wide memo, marks the end of an era for Slatkin, who has spent her career revolutionizing the world of home fragrances. While she will remain on the board of directors, she is now ready to embark on new entrepreneurial adventures, reflecting her dynamic spirit and passion for innovation.

Since launching Slatkin & Co. in 1992, Laura has been a trailblazer in the home fragrance industry. Her journey continued with the founding of Nest in 2008, which quickly became a household name renowned for its quality and sophistication. In 2013, she expanded her offerings to include a luxurious line of eau de parfum, further establishing the brand’s reputation as a leader in fragrance. Slatkin’s pride is evident as she reflects on the collective achievements of her team, emphasizing their ability to innovate and elevate everyday experiences through scent.

The Nest product line has grown remarkably over the years, showcasing a diverse range of items that include scented candles, diffusers, and bath products. Most recently, the launch of “Voyages by Nest” introduced an exciting collection of fine fragrances, perfume oils, and elegant home scents. Additionally, the brand’s strategic placement in over 800 Ulta Beauty stores has expanded its reach, allowing consumers to enjoy their exquisite fragrances across the country. This growth mirrors a broader trend in the fragrance market, where Nest has established itself as a formidable player with over $200 million in retail sales in the U.S.

Investor interest in Nest has surged, leading to significant changes in its corporate structure. In 2022, private equity firm North Castle Partners acquired a majority stake in Nest from Eurazeo, valuing the company at a remarkable $200 million. This acquisition illustrates both the strong foundation Slatkin has built and the bright future ahead for the brand. Slatkin and Eurazeo, however, retained minority stakes, ensuring that they continue to play a role in Nest’s future development.

Following the acquisition, Nest appointed Edgar Huber, a seasoned executive from Coty, as its new CEO. Huber took the helm from Maria Dempsey, who left the company for a new opportunity. He expressed deep gratitude for Slatkin’s contributions, stating that her passion and vision laid the groundwork for the brand’s incredible success. As he steps into this leadership position, Huber has promised to uphold the legacy of craftsmanship and sophistication that defines Nest, while also seeking out new opportunities for global growth.

As Laura Slatkin embarks on this new chapter in her entrepreneurial journey, she leaves behind a legacy of innovation and a brand that has forged a deep connection with its consumers. Her pioneering spirit and dedication to excellence have created a brand synonymous with quality and sophistication in the fragrance industry. While she may be stepping back from daily operations, her influence will undoubtedly continue to inspire both her team and the broader fragrance community as they move forward into the exciting future she has helped to shape.
