How Supplement Brands Are Simplifying Seed Cycling to Support Hormone Health

Seed cycling is emerging as a popular practice aimed at enhancing hormonal health by aligning seed consumption with the menstrual cycle. This approach typically involves incorporating flax seeds and pumpkin seeds during the menstruation and follicular phases (roughly days 1 to 14), and shifting to sunflower seeds and sesame seeds during ovulation and the luteal phase (days 15 to 28). Advocates believe that this dietary rhythm can mitigate issues associated with premenstrual syndrome (PMS), polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), and perimenopause, offering a holistic avenue for women seeking to balance their hormones.

Experts highlight the potential benefits of these seeds. According to Dr. Cornelia Hainer, head of science at the cycle syncing app Clue, flax seeds might positively influence estrogen metabolism, which can relieve symptoms of PMS and menopause. Meanwhile, pumpkin seeds are packed with zinc, posited to alleviate menstrual cramps, and sunflower seeds are rich in vitamin E, believed to be essential for fertility. Although these nutrients show promise, it’s worth noting that the scientific backing for seed cycling itself is still limited, mostly resting on the individual benefits of the seeds rather than extensive clinical studies.

Despite the need for more research, many users report positive experiences with seed cycling, mentioning improvements in mood, libido, and menstrual regularity. However, the execution of this practice can be quite cumbersome; it typically requires meticulous planning to source, prepare, and consume the correct seeds on schedule. Thankfully, several brands are recognizing this challenge and are now offering products that simplify the process, making it more accessible for women seeking to benefit from seed cycling.

Rachel Hirsch, founder of Wellness Growth Ventures, observes that seed cycling has transitioned from a niche DIY approach to a more mainstream concept, especially among wellness communities on platforms like TikTok. While there’s growing consumer interest, Hirsch underscores that substantial investment and clinical research are still lacking in this area. Until cycle syncing garners more attention comparable to that of gut health or sleep products, it may continue to be seen as a supplemental rather than foundational health practice for many women.

Brands like Funk It Wellness are stepping up to facilitate this practice. Their Seed Cycling Kit, priced at $39, includes separate blends of seeds for each phase of the cycle, eliminating the need for users to grind or mix their seeds daily. This kit can be effortlessly added to various foods, making consumption straightforward. Furthermore, Funk It Wellness also offers Cycle Bites, a daily multivitamin focused on hormone health.

Other brands, like Two Moons Health and Beeya Wellness, are also innovating to streamline seed cycling. Two Moons Health offers capsules filled with the appropriate seed blends for each phase, while Beeya combines several seeds into blended powders designed to optimize estrogen and progesterone levels. Moon Cycle Seed Company presents a whole-seed approach, encouraging users to incorporate them into recipes, broadening the creative possibilities of how seeds can fit into daily diets. All these products reflect a broader trend toward enhancing women’s health in user-friendly formats.

In summary, while the science behind seed cycling is still unfolding, a growing number of women are engaging with this practice, often finding tangible benefits despite the rigorous demands it may entail. With emerging brands simplifying implementation, seed cycling is poised to continue gaining traction as a supportive tool for women navigating hormonal fluctuations and health.
