As Skims sets forth its vision for a burgeoning beauty venture, it has welcomed Diarrha N’Diaye as its new executive vice president of beauty and fragrance. With her extensive experience in the industry, N’Diaye is set to lead product development and brand strategy from Monday onward. Her background includes significant roles at notable companies like Glossier and L’Oréal, and most recently, she founded Ami Colé, a makeup brand designed for deeper skin tones. Although she recently announced the winding down of Ami Colé, N’Diaye’s expertise in making beauty more inclusive perfectly aligns with Skims’ vision.

Kim Kardashian, co-founder and chief creative officer of Skims, expressed her enthusiasm about bringing N’Diaye on board, emphasizing the importance of representation in beauty. Kardashian noted that N’Diaye has an exceptional talent for combining both the emotional and functional aspects of beauty. Her unique insights into innovation and authenticity are seen as key to fueling the brand’s growth. This commitment to new ideas signals a promising direction for Skims Beauty, aimed at enriching the consumer experience.

In her statements, N’Diaye explained her vision for Skims Beauty, which includes a focus on creating makeup classics that harmonize with beauty rituals, all while simplifying processes. She expressed a desire to cultivate a “second-skin experience” for customers that seamlessly connects clothing, makeup, and fragrance. This holistic approach reflects a forward-thinking philosophy that could redefine consumer expectations in the beauty industry.

Earlier this year, Skims acquired Skkn by Kim, Kardashian’s previous beauty line, which encompassed both makeup and skincare. The purchase from Coty Inc. marked a significant step in Skims’ journey into beauty. By integrating existing lines and expertise, Skims aims to create a comprehensive beauty portfolio that resonates with its expansive audience. The exact terms of the acquisition remain undisclosed, but it points to a serious commitment to establishing a strong foothold in the beauty market.

Jens Grede, co-founder and CEO of Skims, praised N’Diaye’s modern and community-oriented perspective on beauty. He highlighted how her entrepreneurial spirit and keen understanding of untapped customer needs would be vital in propelling the business forward. This partnership marks a strategic move towards a brand identity that prioritizes inclusivity and real-world relevance, resonating deeply with consumers who value authenticity.

Skims has been on a growth trajectory, with a valuation of $4 billion from its 2023 funding round. The brand’s expansion into men’s products and the physical retail space, alongside the release of trendy items like the viral Seamless Sculpt Face Wrap, illustrates its dynamic approach. Recently, the Faux Hair Micro String Thong also garnered massive attention, selling out in less than 24 hours, solidifying Skims’ place as a forward-thinking leader in the fashion and beauty landscape. This innovative spirit is expected to drive Skims Beauty toward new heights under N’Diaye’s leadership.
