EXCLUSIVE: Shay Mitchell Bets Big on Kid-first Skin Care, Debuts Rini

Introducing Rini: A New Kids’ Skincare Brand by Shay Mitchell

In an age where children are more curious about beauty than ever before, Shay Mitchell, along with partners Esther Song and Matte Babel, is excited to introduce their latest venture: Rini, a skincare brand specifically designed for kids aged 4 to 12. The name "Rini" is inspired by the Korean slang word for "kiddo," perfectly capturing the playful essence of the brand. Rini aims to fill a gap in the market by offering skincare essentials tailored for young skin. The initial lineup includes various fun products like the Hydrating Hydrogel Mask, the After Sun Hydrogel Mask, and the Everyday Face Sheet Mask, adorned with playful designs of puppies, unicorns, and pandas. These masks are now available online, priced reasonably between $5.99 and $6.99, making them accessible for parents wishing to introduce skincare to their young ones.

The inception of Rini stemmed from the personal parenting experiences of its founders. A vivid memory stands out for Mitchell: a birthday party where Esther’s daughter, Paloma, had her face painted. When it was time to clean up, Paloma ended up in the bathroom with a mess of colors from using just her hands and water. It was a relatable moment—a reminder that children’s skin is more sensitive and requires thoughtful care. Faced with the dilemma of how to safely remove the paint without harming Paloma’s delicate skin, Mitchell and Song had to resort to a paper towel and water, which unfortunately left a lingering purple stain. This incident underscored the need for Rini: a brand that not only addresses skincare but also acknowledges children’s inherent desire to play and express themselves.

Rini aims to provide parents with peace of mind, offering products that ensure safety and effectiveness. Recognizing the sensitive nature of children’s skin, the masks are formulated in Korea using non-irritating, natural ingredients. With beneficial components like Vitamin B12 and aloe, the products are designed to hydrate and soothe, making them perfect for occasions ranging from removing face paint to alleviating sunburn. Rini is not just about fun; it’s also about creating a reliable skincare routine that parents can trust for their kids.

The launch of Rini coincides with an exciting surge in the beauty market targeted towards younger generations. As brands like Salish Matter’s Sincerely, Yours Skincare gain traction, it’s clear that kids, especially Gen Alpha, are becoming significant influencers in the skincare world. Recent data shows that these younger consumers are responsible for a substantial portion of skincare revenue, showcasing a shift in how beauty products are marketed and sold. However, Mitchell emphasizes that Rini’s target audience differs from the “Sephora tweens” who are interested in sophisticated makeup. Instead, Rini focuses on a younger demographic eager to play and discover in the world of beauty.

The brand serves as a gateway for young kids who watch their parents engage with skincare products. Mitchell, who has two daughters, Atlas and Rome, understands their eagerness to participate in beauty routines. She describes how they often look up at her while she applies her skincare, curious about what they can use. With Rini, children now have the opportunity to explore skincare products designed just for them, allowing their imaginations to fly. As Mitchell notes, her daughters have become the real ambassadors for Rini, providing their insights on what they would like to see from the brand next.

Looking ahead, Mitchell and Song plan to continue their collaboration with their children as Rini expands. This inclusion of the next generation not only helps guide product development but also fosters a sense of ownership and creativity among the kids. By allowing them to weigh in on future offerings, Rini not only becomes a brand for children but also a brand built with children, further solidifying its foundation in fun and safe skincare.
