EXCLUSIVE: Ritual Announces Latest Clinical Trial on Prenatal Multivitamin

Ritual’s Commitment to Women’s Health: Pioneering Clinical Research

Ritual, a well-known supplement brand, is significantly enhancing its efforts in women’s health research with the latest announcement of a clinical trial for their Prenatal Multivitamin. Priced at $39, this capsule come in refreshing mint or citrus flavors and is enriched with 12 essential nutrients including biotin, choline, and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid). This initiative is part of a broader strategy, as Ritual has previously conducted clinical trials on their Sleep BioSeries Melatonin, Essential for Women Multivitamin, and HyaCera Wrinkle Support. Katerina Schneider, the company’s founder and CEO, emphasizes their dedication to clinical science in women’s health, noting that they are the first prominent brand to study prenatal vitamins scientifically.

The urgency of this research is underscored by alarmingly low funding for women’s health studies; a mere 5 percent of global research funding was allocated to this area in 2020. This neglect of women’s health, where inclusion in clinical trials wasn’t mandated until 1993, has created significant disparities in research and findings relevant to women. Ritual’s new clinical trial aims to close this gap, aiming to enhance prenatal care for future mothers and their babies.

The recent clinical trial involved a randomized, double-blind, controlled study with 62 pregnant women in their second and third trimesters. Maternal samples were collected at several intervals, including baseline, week 12, and week 24. The study compared the effects of Ritual’s Prenatal Multivitamin against another prenatal supplement and a separate DHA vitamin. Notably, the diverse participant pool included women aged 21 to 45, representing various racial backgrounds, which strengthens the validity of the findings.

Results from the trial were promising. Ritual’s Prenatal Multivitamin demonstrated a 2.4 times increase in biotin levels within maternal serum and showed improved folate absorption and reduced cortisol levels, indicating less stress for the mother. Participants also reported a superior user experience with Ritual’s product compared to competitors. Not only did the findings reflect positively on maternal health, but they also suggested increased indicators of bone health in newborns, emphasizing the prenatal vitamin’s dual benefits for mothers and babies alike.

While competitors claim clinical backing for their prenatal products, Ritual stresses the importance of transparency in reporting study results. Many brands rely on observational studies rather than rigorous clinical trials, often producing anecdotal evidence rather than statistical data. This lack of clarity can lead to confusion among consumers who may not fully understand the differences between scientific rigor and mere claims. As such, Ritual aims to set a new standard in the industry by ensuring their research is thoroughly backed by scientific methodologies.

Moving forward, Ritual plans to publish their research findings and has committed over $5 million to support this initiative. Additionally, other clinical trials are already in progress, including one for their Postnatal Multivitamin, which sells for $44. Schneider believes that the implications of their research will extend beyond just Ritual’s products, contributing meaningfully to the broader landscape of women’s health. Importantly, these research investments have positively influenced the brand’s overall performance and helped solidify their position as a leader in the women’s health supplement market, with their Prenatal Multivitamin becoming the best-selling option in the United States.

In summary, Ritual is pioneering a new era of women’s health research through their commitment to clinical trials and rigorous scientific validation. By focusing on prenatal health, they are not only addressing existing gaps in the healthcare system but also aiming to empower women with products that genuinely support their health and wellbeing. As Ritual continues to invest in research and product development, they uphold their mission to change the conversation around women’s health in a meaningful way.
