EXCLUSIVE: Mariska Hargitay Joins the Cetaphil Family

Mariska Hargitay, celebrated for her iconic portrayal of Olivia Benson in “Law & Order: SVU,” is proving that tackling new challenges is always on her agenda. Fresh off her documentary directorial debut with “My Mom Jayne,” which explores the life of her late mother, Jayne Mansfield, Hargitay is diving into yet another venture: she has been appointed as the face of Cetaphil’s new Skin Activator Hydrating & Firming product line. This collection, which makes its debut at affordable prices ranging from $10 to $17, targets common skincare concerns such as fine lines and crepey skin. Hargitay expresses her enthusiasm for the brand, noting how Cetaphil has always felt gentle and nurturing on her sensitive skin.

The actress’s collaboration with Cetaphil is not just personal; it also embraces innovative science. The products in this new line, developed by Alan Widgerow, the chief science officer at Galderma, incorporate micro-doses of mandelic acid and centella asiatica. These ingredients are designed to “wake up” dormant skin cells, a concept that resonates with Hargitay. Widgerow explains that while mandelic acid is typically known as an exfoliant, its lower concentrations have a reenergizing effect on skin cells, emphasizing a more scientific approach to skincare.

Moreover, this launch holds particular significance for Cetaphil, as it seeks to engage Millennial and Gen X consumers, who make up nearly half of its customer base. Tara Loftis, the global president of skincare at Galderma, highlights the shift in the narrative around aging—not about fighting it, but rather embracing and redefining it. By enlisting Hargitay, described as a “national treasure” by Loftis, Cetaphil aims to amplify this ongoing cultural conversation, encouraging women to take pride in their age and beauty.

Hargitay’s involvement further emphasizes the message of breaking stereotypes. In discussing her campaign style, she remarks on the unexpected nature of her look, from a striking red lip to a chic trench coat, underscoring her desire not to be confined by traditional representations. She aims to inspire women to embrace their capabilities without limitations, reinforcing the idea that age should be celebrated.

As Cetaphil ventures forward with this Skin Activator line, it marks a new chapter post-rebranding for the company, which recently had success with the launch of its Gentle Exfoliating collection. Despite the competitive skincare landscape, Loftis believes that cultivating powerful science behind each product can set them apart. Cetaphil is committed to tailoring its marketing strategy to spotlight the scientific elements that inform their products, appealing to consumers who seek more than just an aesthetically pleasing brand.

Having experienced a surge of creativity from her latest projects, Hargitay expresses a desire to dive deeper into storytelling. With ambitions to tackle new films and projects, she reflects on how her recent experiences have emboldened her spirit. Her approach now is one of exploration and courage, suggesting that as she embraces her own beauty and power, she aims to invite others to do the same, creating a community that celebrates their shared journeys of growth and self-acceptance.
