Cynthia Erivo turned heads at the 78th annual Tony Awards held on June 8, showcasing her beauty not just through her incredible talent, but also through her striking makeup. Donning the viral Korean makeup brand TirTir, known for its standout products from TikTok, Erivo’s look cleverly captured the complexities of her character Elphaba from the musical “Wicked.” Her makeup, characterized by dramatic black lashes and radiant purple highlighter, was the brainchild of renowned artist Joanna Simkin, who has a history of creating notable looks for other celebrities as well.

Joanna Simkin, who has worked with stars like Gabrielle Union-Wade and Zayn Malik, has teamed up with Erivo multiple times this awards season to craft her iconic red carpet styles. For the Tony Awards, Simkin opted for TirTir, a brand that has made waves in the beauty community for its innovative formulations. Previously, Simkin had utilized various U.S. makeup lines for Erivo’s glam, but this time, she chose to experiment with TirTir, which evidently paid off in the form of a stunning and ethereal look for the occasion.

Founded in South Korea in 2016, TirTir first gained much of its recognition with the launch of its Cushion Foundation. This hydrating formula quickly caught the attention of beauty enthusiasts on TikTok, lauded for providing a semi-matte finish while being available in an impressive 36 shades. Simkin laid the groundwork for Erivo’s breathtaking appearance by utilizing the TirTir Milk Skin Toner for hydration, followed by the Ceramic Milk Ampoule and its flawless Mask Fit Red Cushion Foundation in multiple shades. This attention to detail allowed for a sophisticated, dewy glow beneath the expertly applied makeup.

Alongside a stunning makeup routine, TirTir’s presence extended beyond the red carpet, featuring prominently at the after-party hosted at the Museum of Modern Art. With a dedicated section that included a playful photo booth and a claw machine filled with trendy lip gloss keychains and the latest sensation, Labubu dolls, the brand embraced the celebratory atmosphere of the evening while further engaging attendees in a light-hearted way.

Cynthia’s fashion choices were equally mesmerising, as she wore a lavish couture dress designed by Daniel Roseberry for Schiaparelli’s spring 2025 collection. The gown featured an avant-garde stiff bodice with sparkling crystals, amplifying her chic yet ethereal vibe. Simultaneously, she opted for a minimalistic nail design adorned with 3D florals, ensuring her makeup and attire complemented each other while maintaining a sense of artistic flair, perfectly in tune with her personal style.

The synergy between Erivo and her stylist, Jason Bolden, has been impactful since the launch of “Harriet.” Bolden’s unique approach blends traditional elegance with personal expression, reflected in his work with other high-profile figures and collaborations, including a chic jewelry collection with Australian brand 8 Other Reasons. His perspective on fashion embraces timelessness and personality, aiming to create essential pieces that resonate with personal style, making his influence pivotal in shaping Erivo’s memorable appearances on the red carpet and beyond.
