Chris McMillan has long been a beacon in the hairstyling world, famously known for crafting “The Rachel,” Jennifer Aniston’s iconic ’90s hairstyle. Recently, he’s taken his exceptional talent a step further by launching his own haircare line, simply branded with his name. Debuting on August 12 at Sephora, McMillan’s line promises to deliver the same quality and results his clients have come to expect from his salon. His products include a variety of styling essentials that cater to everyday hair needs, making professional-grade results accessible at home.

In a recent interview at the Peninsula Chicago Hotel, McMillan shared insights into his vision for the brand. He wants to empower individuals to recreate salon-quality looks at home. His initial product offerings are designed to help customers achieve that much-coveted blowout. “When clients leave my salon, they often ask how to replicate that look,” he said. “Now, I’m giving them the tools to do so.” His lineup includes offerings like The Glassy Smooth Blowdry Spray and The Major Hairspray, all infused with a proprietary HS3 complex aimed at enhancing shine, strength, and heat protection.

While the initial focus is clearly on styling, McMillan’s aspirations extend well beyond that. He aims to create a comprehensive haircare line that addresses a variety of concerns, from hair loss to aging and graying hair—topics he believes deserve more attention. Having witnessed firsthand the effects of lifestyle changes, such as using weight-loss medications or experiencing hormonal shifts during pregnancy, McMillan wants to develop solutions that cater to these diverse challenges.

With decades of experience, including styling Aniston for films, McMillan’s long-awaited brand launch seems almost overdue. His partner, Kenny McGranahan, plays a crucial role in this venture as the co-founder and CEO. McMillan credits McGranahan’s business acumen as a vital element that allowed him to confidently step into the entrepreneurial space. While McMillan brings creative magic, McGranahan provides the necessary corporate structure, essential for turning hair-styling dreams into reality.

When crafting his product line, McMillan placed significant emphasis on fragrance, wanting each product to evoke feelings reminiscent of cherished scents. He drew inspiration from his favorite suntan lotions, aiming for a fragrance profile that feels fresh yet soft. This thoughtful attention to detail signifies that McMillan’s products are not just about function; they also aim to elevate the overall customer experience. Fragrance plays a pivotal role in how users connect with their products, and he encourages this sensory aspect in styling.

Education remains a cornerstone of McMillan’s philosophy. He believes learning the techniques behind beautiful hair shouldn’t be an insurmountable challenge. “I’m all about teaching the basics,” he expressed. Partnering with Sephora represents a natural fit for him. Having previously collaborated with the retailer on various projects, McMillan acknowledges the mutual respect they share. As McMillan steps into the limelight with his new brand, industry experts like Sephora’s CEO recognize his significant impact on hair trends over the decades and are excited to witness the next chapter of his career unfold.
