Benefit Cosmetics Expands the Porefessional Line with a New Foundation
Benefit Cosmetics is set to revolutionize the foundation market with the launch of its Porefessional Foundation on July 14. This product is a significant addition to the already popular Porefessional franchise, known for its pore-smoothing properties. With 40 shades available, the foundation promises to offer medium to full coverage without the typically heavy texture found in many foundations. According to Kate Helfrich, Benefit’s head of global product and service innovation, the brand aims to fill a gap in the market, responding to the needs of customers who struggle with foundations that may further exacerbate the appearance of pores.
This innovative product has actually been three years in the making, emphasizing Benefit’s dedication to creating a foundation that prioritizes skin health. Unlike earlier foundations produced by the brand, such as the now-discontinued Play Sticks and Hello Happy powder foundation, this new offering represents the brand’s sole current foundation option. Priced at $46 and available at major retailers like Sephora, Ulta Beauty, and even TikTok Shop, the foundation is enriched with skin-loving ingredients. With 84 percent of its formula dedicated to skincare components like niacinamide, glycerin, and rosehip extract, this foundation aims not only to enhance appearance but also to nourish the skin.
According to Helfrich, modern color cosmetics must incorporate skin-forward benefits. The innovation lies not merely in the ingredients but also in the product’s texture. The goal is to achieve a lightweight consistency that offers substantial coverage while remaining comfortable and non-comedogenic, ensuring it doesn’t clog pores. This aligns with Benefit’s reputation as the top prestige primer brand in the U.S., a status bolstered by the popularity of its Porefessional primers that blur and prep the skin for makeup application.
Benefit’s senior vice president of global category strategy, Chelsea Evans, noted that the Porefessional Foundation fits perfectly into the brand’s ongoing growth strategy. With successful launches over the past year, including new primers and powders that exceeded sales expectations, the Porefessional line has proven to be a consistent revenue driver. In fact, a Porefessional product reportedly sells every eight seconds worldwide, highlighting the consumer demand for effective pore management solutions.
The foundation is not just about aesthetic improvements; it also aims to enhance skin texture over time. A study indicated that 97 percent of the participants felt their skin became smoother with continued use of the product. This long-term benefit approach sets the Porefessional Foundation apart from many offerings on the market, showcasing Benefit’s intent to create products that deliver results even beyond immediate cosmetic improvements.
Evans emphasized that the unique aspect of the Porefessional franchise—focusing on pore management—opens up numerous possibilities for future product development. The brand sees a substantial opportunity to explore various applications within the realm of color and skincare. With a clear dedication to addressing consumer needs for smoothing and blurring, the Porefessional line is poised for expansion, bringing exciting innovations in beauty to market in the near future.
