As Beauty New York approaches its highly anticipated launch, it’s not just an occasion for consumers but also a celebration that honors influential figures in the beauty industry. On October 16, a launch party at The Oculus will mark the beginning of this consumer-centric event, where several notable individuals and organizations will receive prestigious awards acknowledging their significant contributions to the field.

Among the honorees, Jenny B. Fine, the executive beauty editor at WWD and editor-in-chief of Beauty Inc, will receive the Impact in Beauty Journalism award. Unilever is recognized for its commitment to sustainability, clinching the Impact in Sustainability Leadership award. Additionally, Nimrod Basri, representing Make USA, will take home the Impact in Building Beauty with Purpose award. Macy’s Inc. is celebrated for its Impact in Beauty Retail, while Stephan Kanlian, chair of the master’s program in Cosmetics and Fragrance Marketing and Management at the Fashion Institute of Technology, will be awarded for his role in Shaping Future Leaders.

Liza Rapay, the founder of Beauty New York and vice president of Cosmoprof North America, shared her vision for the Impact Awards, emphasizing that the honors are not merely a financial transaction but a carefully considered recognition of true merit. “Profit will follow purpose,” Rapay proclaimed, underscoring that the event’s mission is to elevate and inspire the beauty industry. She aims for the awards to embody the values of dedication and innovation, reflecting the diverse ecosystem that drives the industry.

In her quest to celebrate the industry’s key players, Rapay expressed a desire to give even more awards, indicating the wealth of talent deserving recognition. She stressed the importance of inclusivity and representation in the beauty space, stating, “It isn’t just big corporations.” Highlighting institutions like Macy’s, she acknowledged their historical significance and continuous influence on the beauty landscape in New York City—a city synonymous with beauty, culture, and innovation.

Rapay’s selection process for the awards was deliberate and thoughtful. For instance, she regards Macy’s as fundamental to the New York experience—its storied presence and involvement in community events underscore its value to the city’s beauty narrative. Similarly, she praised Jenny B. Fine for her trusted journalism, recognizing her leadership in telling the stories that shape the industry. The honor for Unilever was particularly notable, as Rapay highlighted the considerable investments companies make in sustainability initiatives, marking it as a core aspect of modern business practices.

In awarding Stephan Kanlian, Rapay felt he embodies the essence of mentorship, equipping future leaders with the tools essential for success, thereby ensuring the industry’s growth. Meanwhile, Make USA’s recognition stems from its commitment to inclusivity, employing individuals who face barriers to traditional employment. Rapay emphasized that this initiative creates genuine opportunities, noting how such programs provide more than just second chances—they are often the first opportunities for many.

Amidst all the event preparations, interest in Beauty New York is surging, with 32 brands already lined up to participate. Rapay announced an impressive ticket sales record, with many sold out during a recent Today Show feature. As the event draws closer, its significance as a gathering of the beauty community continues to grow, reinforcing the mission to connect, celebrate, and inspire the industry collectively.
