The Essence of Design: Michael Anastassiades and Alessi’s Fragrance Launch

Michael Anastassiades, a prominent designer known for his innovative approach to lighting and furniture, has taken his creative vision in a new direction with a captivating home fragrance line. In collaboration with the esteemed Italian brand Alessi, Anastassiades draws inspiration from the soulful scents of his childhood, particularly those emanating from the rich landscapes of Cyprus and the Italian quarries of Carrara and Versiglia. The journey begins with an evocative memory—a blend of freshly cut stone, smoke, gasoline, damp earth, and the aromatic hints of spring flowers and herbs. From a young age, Anastassiades possessed an acute olfactory sensitivity, often associating his experiences with specific smells. Growing up in Cyprus, he reminisces about the unique fragrances of local plants encountered during leisurely walks. Crafted in collaboration with the Robertet perfumery, a leader renowned for its commitment to natural raw materials, the Rocc fragrance line offers a unique olfactory experience. Each fragrance in the collection was meticulously developed to transport users on an aromatic journey. Highlights include scents like Marble and Clay, capturing the essence of raw materials, and Flint, which evokes wild ferns and oakmoss. A standout is the Amber fragrance, featuring a rare blend of tonka bean and warm spices, showcasing the depth and complexity of thoughtfully curated scents. Anastassiades’ personal connection to these fragrances lends them a rich narrative, pushing boundaries in both design and olfactory expression.

The Rocc collection not only tantalizes the senses with its captivating aromas but also impresses with its elegant design. Each fragrance is housed in a striking stainless steel container, a signature element designed by Anastassiades himself and meticulously produced at Alessi’s Omegna headquarters. These vessels are more than mere containers; they serve as aesthetic additions to home decor, encouraging sustainable practices as they can be repurposed after the fragrances are used. Starting at 55 euros, the collection balances accessibility with upscale design, appealing to a wide range of consumers interested in elevating their living spaces.

The fragrances and diffusers from the Rocc collection will be available through Alessi’s official channels across Europe, the U.K., and Switzerland starting in October.
