This Is How I Make My Fringe Last All 5 Days At Glastonbury

Glastonbury Hair Icons and the Perfect Fringe

When it comes to Glastonbury, some people idolize fashion icons, but for me, it’s all about the hair. I’ve got a mood board filled with stunning inspirations like Daisy Edgar-Jones, Dakota Johnson, Suki Waterhouse, and Sienna Miller. These talented women have mastered the art of looking effortlessly chic at the festival, particularly with their iconic fringes. Walking through the fields of Glasto with the right hairstyle can set the tone for an unforgettable experience, but it also comes with its own set of challenges, especially for those of us with high-maintenance haircuts.

Glastonbury is not just any festival; it’s a true marathon that tests both your stamina and your beauty routine. Amidst the excitement and the unpredictable British weather, hair maintenance can feel daunting—especially if you, like me, have a fringe that demands attention. My hair tends to be coarse and frizz-prone, so the thought of spending five days camping without the luxury of a shower filled me with anxiety. In everyday life, I’m used to washing and styling my hair almost daily to keep my fringe looking just right, and the festival seemed like a recipe for disaster.

After attending Glastonbury twice with my newly beloved fringe, I realized that, despite my initial worries, there are supportive steps I can take to ensure my hair survives the festival chaos. My fringe features a full, textured look that I’ve carefully sculpted over the years with the help of my patient hairdresser, Ben Jones. He’s given it longer sides and a choppy center, allowing me the flexibility to switch up styles, such as curtain bangs when the occasion calls for it. This adaptability becomes crucial during the festival when your hair can easily be tossed about by the wind or a sudden downpour.

Embracing the nonchalant, tousled look of a festival-ready fringe feels perfectly aligned with the spirit of Glastonbury. That said, achieving that effortless look requires some thoughtful planning. My mission for each festival is to keep my fringe intact through the muddy fields and sporadic rain, which leads me to share some tried-and-true tips that ensure my hairstyle thrives throughout the festival.

First on my list is to get a trim before the event. If you have the time, visiting your hairdresser for a quick touch-up can work wonders. An unkempt fringe can part inconveniently, altering your entire look. I typically schedule my trim about a week before Glasto for that fresh cut to settle just right. If you’re cutting it close and aim for a last-minute grooming session, remember to ask your stylist to keep it light to maintain that casual, “lived-in” appearance.

Another crucial step is washing and styling your fringe the morning before you head to the festival. While I often prefer to wash my hair the night before to let it soften overnight, it’s worth doing it that day if you’re prone to an oily scalp. Without a hairdryer at my disposal during the festival, this final opportunity to set my style becomes essential. By taking these steps, I can head into Glastonbury with the confidence that my hair—and my fringe—will survive the revelry, ensuring I look just as fabulous as my Glastonbury fashion icons.
